What is the biggest ecommerce store?

The single highest-traffic ecommerce store in our index is IKEA (ikea.com), pulling 209,001,860 monthly visits as of 2026-04-11. That's not self-reported; it's SimilarWeb's panel-based measurement of actual visitors.

For context, the median store in the full dataset gets around 296,383.154 monthly visits. The #1 store gets roughly 705x more traffic than the average ecommerce store.

What do the top 50 have in common?

Looking at the data across all 50 stores, a few patterns emerge.

They engage visitors. The average bounce rate across the top 50 is 0.4%, well below the dataset-wide average of 0.5%. High traffic and low bounce rate together mean these stores are attracting the right visitors and giving them a reason to stay.

They're surprisingly slow. The average mobile PSI score across the top 50 is just 36. That's below the threshold most SEO guides consider "good" (50+). The lesson: traffic at scale is driven by brand awareness, product selection, and marketing spend, not by Lighthouse scores. Speed matters for conversion rate, not necessarily for total traffic.

One category dominates. Apparel & Accessories accounts for 31 of 50 spots. This isn't because apparel stores are better; it's because the apparel market is enormous If you're not in apparel, don't compare your traffic to these numbers.

Most are US or UK based. US stores hold 41 of the 50 spots, reflecting both the size of the English-speaking ecommerce market and SimilarWeb's coverage bias toward Western traffic.

How do these stores rank vs their own categories?

The top 50 overall are dominated by a few categories, but every category has its own leaders. Here are the top 3 stores by traffic in the 10 largest categories:

How are these stores ranked?

The ranking is based on total monthly visits (organic + paid + direct + social + referral) measured by SimilarWeb. We exclude stores that:

  • Have not been verified as live ecommerce sites by our enrichment pipeline
  • Have fewer than 10,000 monthly visits (the floor for inclusion in the Scout dataset)

This gives an apples-to-apples comparison across the entire dataset of 16,438 stores. SimilarWeb's data comes from browser panel measurements, ISP partnerships, and direct measurement integrations. No store can pay to be included or excluded.

Why use this list instead of public rankings?

Most "top ecommerce stores" lists on the internet share three problems:

  1. They're hand-curated. A blogger picks 20 stores they've heard of and arranges them subjectively. There's no dataset behind it.
  2. They're outdated. The same lists from 2019-2022 get recycled with minor edits. Stores that have since declined or shut down remain on the list.
  3. They confuse "notable" with "biggest." Being featured in a platform case study doesn't mean a store has meaningful traffic.

This list is mechanically derived: a SQL query against a continuously enriched dataset, ordered by the freshest available traffic snapshot. If a store's traffic drops, it falls off the list automatically.

If you want to slice this differently -- by category, by country, by ad spend, by tech stack, or by pricing tier -- you can build your own ranking.

Frequently asked questions

As of 2026-04-11, the highest-traffic ecommerce store in the Adamir Scout dataset is IKEA (ikea.com), with approximately 209,001,860 monthly visits according to SimilarWeb.

The population with meaningful traffic is much smaller. Adamir Scout tracks 16,438 verified ecommerce stores with at least 10,000 monthly visits, across 13 categories and 77 countries.

Apparel & Accessories dominates the top 50, holding 31 spots. This reflects the size of the DTC fashion market, not necessarily that apparel stores perform better per-store.

Surprisingly, no. The average mobile PSI score across the top 50 stores is 36, which is below most optimization guides' recommended threshold. High traffic at this scale is driven by brand strength and marketing budget, not by Lighthouse scores.

Monthly visit counts come from SimilarWeb's panel-based traffic estimates, which aggregate clickstream data, ISP partnerships, and direct measurement signals. No store can pay to be included or excluded.

The underlying data refreshes continuously as the enrichment pipeline runs. The blog snapshot updates at minimum quarterly. Current snapshot: 2026-04-11.

Yes. Adamir Scout lets you filter the full dataset by category, country, traffic range, pricing tier, ad presence, and tech stack. The per-category top 3 tables above give a preview, but the full tool offers much more flexibility.
